I Need a Vacation

Canada does NOT count.  I was in school for five weeks, and let’s not forget the part where I was forced to speak French the whole time.  I just want to spend a weekend next to a body of water.  Can someone make that happen, please?  You can come, too.

Besides going to Canada, this summer has amounted to very little.  The majority of my summer (stateside) has been spent with my wonderful roommate — who is currently on vacation right now, making me the sole inhabitor of our house and pretty jealous — or working out or watching copious amounts of Food Network and TLC programming or eating lots of ice cream.  I have finished two books (Evening by Susan Minot and The History of Love by Nicole Krauss — read them both; I liked The History of Love more, but they’re both great.) and am currently working on a third, Peter Guralnick’s Last Train to Memphis:  The Rise of Elvis Presley.  Does anyone have any summer reading suggestions?  Send them my way.

I have also returned to the world of radio as an employee.  It’s basically Internship, Part Deux — with  money!  Let me tell you, working with crazy people in a wholly bizarre work environment is so much more fulfilling when there’s a paycheck involved.  I’m not sure how much I’m making quite yet, but you can bet on it being posted here.  Let’s hope it’s at least $7.25 — I made that much making sandwiches.  I’d like to think a real job would be more appreciative ;).

Speaking of work, can anyone think of a logical explanation for a human-sized toucan costume in the office?  I can guarantee you it has nothing to do with any of the radio stations.

In other news, I spent two hours at TJ Maxx today and bought nothing for myself.  I almost bought a dress, but it seemed a little too fancy for a summer dress, and I wasn’t crazy about it.  However, you better believe I’m going to check out some other bargain shopping locations for something cute and summer-y and also appropriate for a semi-professional wardrobe.  It has come to my attention (unnervingly … every day last week) that very little of my wardrobe is summer clothing, and there’s an even smaller percentage of things that are office appropriate.  I’m going to have to go on I’ve Got Nothing to Wear soon … or start getting really creative in my work attire.  Fortunately, I can wear jeans and open-toed shoes to work, but one day in the not-too-distant future, that will change.

Oh, and one last thing:  Go to Baskin Robbins and try the lemon custard ice cream.  It’s delicious!  I might like it a little more lemony, but that’s just me.  Give it a try, though.  The nutty coconut is good, too.  Trust me.  I’m logging a lot of ice cream sampling time this summer.
