Seeking Advice.

I applied for a job at my alma mater about a month ago.  A few days after submitting my resume, I e-mailed the hiring manager for that particular department to make sure she got my resume.  She e-mailed me back.  “Yes,” says hiring manager, “and we’re in the process of reviewing applicants.  I’ll be in touch with you shortly.”

About two weeks later, I still had heard nothing, so I left her a voicemail.  I also e-mailed one of the girls who works in the department — She graduated when I was a sophomore.  We had a few classes together, and she’s actually an alumna of my sorority. — and told her that unless some job-related miracle happened, I’d pretty much be high-tailing it back to Indiana for a little while after graduation and would, therefore, be unable to be physically present for an interview.  Phone interviews would be great, but nothing face-to-face … and no, seriously, take your time, but please let me know.

She e-mails me back and says thanks for letting her know.  She’ll keep me posted, and she’ll forward the e-mail to the hiring manager.  “The hiring manager should be in touch with you in a little bit, I hope!” she says.

It’s a month later.  I e-mailed the hiring manager an updated copy of my resume and asked if she wouldn’t mind, you know, letting me know what was going on.  This was on Monday.  As of five minutes ago, still nothing …

This isn’t, obviously, the only job I’m applying for.  This isn’t, obviously, the only lead I have.  But it is a job I would kick butt at, have serious experience with, and am more than qualified for.  (My apologies for lots of phrases ending with prepositions.)  So what’s next?  Do I e-mail my friend and see what the deal is?  Do I e-mail someone a little higher up and express my discontentment with the lack of professionalism?  Do I give up and put my eggs in other baskets?  What do y’all think?
