Things I Love That Cause Me Pain: A List

1.  Coffee:  Unless I buy the Simply Smooth, I get terrible stomach cramps.  It never fails.  I went to Target the other morning, and I stopped at the Starbucks inside and ordered some coffee, only to be met with a case of stomach cramps that made me want to assume the fetal position on the display futon in the home goods section.  It’s not just the cramps that make me think I should give it up, either.  I don’t drink much caffeine, so a cup of coffee wires me for an inappropriate amount of time.  I know it’s a stimulant, and I can’t expect much less from a substance that paralyzes insects, but it’d be nice to have a cup of coffee without feeling like an amped up housewife.
2.  Dairy:  Much like coffee, dairy gives me horrible stomach cramps.  It wasn’t always this way, dairy.  Why are exacting revenge now?  Last summer, ice cream was a big part of my diet — thanks in part to being located really close to a Baskin Robbins and working at a radio station that was sponsored by the best ice cream company ever — and nothing bad happened.  Somehow this has changed, and I don’t appreciate it one bit, especially with Miracle Treat Day coming up and the triumphant return of Georgia Mud Fudge to the menu of the Dairy Queen closest to my parents’ house.
3.  Running:  There’s something about running that instantly makes me feel better.  I’ve been having a weird few days (and that, of course, involves random outbursts of tears for no reason at all), so after crying over nothing this morning, I decided to go for a run.  And it hurt.  Granted, I haven’t been running much this summer, and I promise I will start doing so more often, body, but oh, my word.  Funny thing is, I still felt better, even though it was a painful experience.
