Allie’s Reasons Why

While perusing Facebook (Isn’t that a nicer way of putting it than “Facebook stalking” or “creeping”?), I saw a friend of mine’s status questioning why everyone was so excited about 2009.  I don’t know about y’all, but I am thrilled to death about kissing au revoir to 2008.  Here’s why:

1.  2008 was not my finest year.  It had its good points, but a lot of ugly, no fun things happened to me this year.  In retrospect, they weren’t that bad — Worse things certainly could have happened. — but not a single one of those things did anything to boost my self-esteem.

2.  We’re getting a new president!  I don’t care who you voted for.  It’s time to get excited about a much-needed change.

3.  I have a new apartment, and I actually get to live in it and make it pretty (and inhabitable).

4.  There’s a whole new travel season ahead of me.  God only knows where I’m going to go this year, but I can’t wait to revisit some places and travel to some new fabulous places.

5.  It’s all new.  This might be the lamest thing I’ve said, but a new year brings a whole lot of new possibilities, and there’s just no telling what’s going to happen.  I’m choosing to believe that 2009 is going to be the best year yet because I need the best year yet.

So there you have it:  Allie’s very limited reasons why the arrival of 2009 is a good thing in my book.
