Instead of three facts about yours truly, I’m giving y’all three new bands I have discovered in the past week.
1. Lauderdale: Like Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, they’re from Northern Alabama, which just so happens to be my favorite part of the state. (I had no idea Muscle Shoals was such a hot bed for music, but then again, it’s appropriate. I knew I loved the Shoals for a reason!) A quote from Bliss magazine on their MySpace sums them up pretty perfectly: “They are musicians who create music for dancing, driving, drinking, and dreaming. Their music can’t be pigeonholed or categorized. It is resontant, complex, and simply beautiful.”
2. Parachute: Their single “Under Control” was iTunes’s Single of the Week last week. Even though it’s not anymore, you should probably shell out the ninety-nine cents and check it out. All of their music feels bright and cheerful; considering the time of the year, I think now is the perfect time to find them.
3. The Riverwinds: They asked to follow me on Twitter before I started following them. Curious as to what kind of musicians my new followers were, I decided to check them out. Obviously, I wasn’t disappointed; on the contrary, I’m really impressed and kind of in love with their music. Let’s be real, though: They had me the moment I saw one of their songs was called “Southern Belle.”
