I checked into the hotel last night, and I got a goodie bag for being a rewards program member. Nothing buys my loyalty like bottled water and Rice Krispy treats. I’m serious, too, by the way, but it’s not really about what’s in the goodie bag; it’s the gesture, really, and it was a super huge surprise. Well done, Comfort Inn.
I checked into the hotel tonight, and I got upgraded to a better room because I’m a rewards program member. My loyalty is pretty much cemented. Mad props to the concierge for his thoughtful placement: I’m on the first floor, right by the wireless router. Also, I may love him a bit for asking me if I was familiar with the movie Juno. (The obvious answer is yes, of course! It’s one of my favorites. And I want to be BFFs with Ellen Page.)
Being a rewards member clearly has its advantages. Now, if Choice could perhaps do something about the rainforest-y weather we’re having in North Carolina, I’d surely appreciate it. The whole foggy, misty, cold thing is doing terrible things for my hair and my otherwise cheerful demeanor. Ugh.
And finally, I’d like to leave y’all with the following snippet of an actual conversation with a teenage boy this morning:
Student: Do y’all have a men’s volleyball team?
Allie: Men’s volleyball may be offered as an intramural sport, but it’s not an official sport with the college, no.
Student: Oh. Do y’all have fun activities like coed mud wrestling?
Allie: Well, we’re a Methodist college, so I don’t know how okay Jesus is with that …
Student: I guess you’re right.
Yep. This is what I deal with daily.
